Our Family

Elizabeth (Mom)

When I’m not at The Purple Tree I like being with family and being a part of whatever they are doing – it doesn’t get any better than that. If I could change one thing about the world… If we could get to a place where civil behavior would be the norm, that would make our world so much better of a place for all of us. My favorite non-profit is Habitat for Humanity.

Dan (Dad)
I am a news and information junkie and enjoy acquiring as much of each as possible. If I could change one thing in the world, I would equalize the distribution of wealth in a more equitable fashion so that all people would have an optimum possibility for personal growth and service.

My favorite non-profit? At the moment, we are high on Women for Women International

Thought on The Purple Tree…. I personally still think it is the best store on the planet because it works so hard to be “good for the planet” and “good for people.”

As I’ve embraced being in my 40’s, I have realized how much I love being with my family. I don’t care where it is or what we are doing. I just really love hanging out with my husband and our four sons. Whether I am watching a son play golf, sitting at a baseball game, or grabbing a bite out to eat, they are all good times and an absolute gift.

You know the saying that we turn into our parents? Well, I think that may be the case for me. Trust me, that makes me so happy. I say this because, like my mother, my favorite non-profit is our St. Croix Valley Habitat for Humanity. It is an organization that focuses on several missions that are near and dear to me: social justice, the environment, and helping families. I love this group!

I feel so blessed that I love my work. Our customers have become our friends…and they inspire me by all that they are doing to make the world a better place. The business partners that we have developed over the years motivate us to try to achieve all that they already have done. It is such a warm and caring community and each day that I go to the shop, I am touched by the people that come through our doors. They make me want to be a better person.

One place you would love to travel to: As many know, I struggle with Midwest winters. The truth is I love tropical weather! Any place with an ocean and a beach is my definition of perfection.

When I’m not at the Purple Tree I like to hang out with my family…date nights with my husband….hiking with the dogs….camping up North…laughing with my parents and sisters….lunching with the nephews and nieces. My favorite nonprofit is Best Friends Animal Society. They shelter and care for all animals until the animals find their forever homes.

I want to travel anywhere warm with a beach. Anywhere with my husband will always be an adventure!

My favorite food? Anything – I love food! Vietnamese…Thai… Greek…dessert… Bread…St. Croix Sunrise coffee from Joe to Go!

Angela (Sister)
As a mom of three musical children, my favorite thing to do when I’m not at the shop is listen to my children making music…typically, lovely melodies drift up from the basement music room or often I’m found at a show choir competition watching and listening and feeling spectacularly blessed.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would you do? I didn’t plan to answer this question as it is soooooo hard to limit myself to one change. In the end, I kept coming back to this one. I would make all of the people on our planet be kind. If that happened, I think almost every problem we have on earth would slowly go away.

Thought on The Purple Tree? I am so honored to be part of a place where each purchase results in something happening that makes our world a better place. I am so deeply grateful to our parents for having the vision to create a place where our dollars can go to help people and the planet.

One place you would love to travel to? I would love to travel to Greece. It blends history, my favorite foods and beautiful beaches with a chance to experience a new culture.

Elizabeth (Sister)
Because I live on the West Coast, I unfortunately don’t get to the Purple Tree that often. When I do, I love THAT! Otherwise, one of my favorite things is to go hiking with my family—we are a woods and mountains, breathe the fresh air, check out the awesome vistas kind of family.

If you could change one thing in the world, what would you do? Well, I have a longer list, but in general, the one thing I would change would be all the lost human potential in the world. So many people’s lives are affected – shortened, miminimized – by hunger, poverty, discrimination, violence, war, and we all lose out in the end. I would like a world where everyone could flourish and fulfill their human potential.

Habitat for Humanity is a current non-profit favorite, and I am also a big fan of all the organizations, big and small, that work to advance human rights.

We are looking forward to the next Purple Tree visit!

When I’m not at The Purple Tree I enjoying walking, biking and SHOPPING!!!

If I could change one thing in the world, I would see that every child has a loving, caring, and influential adult in their life.

My favorite non-profit? My family has been involved with World Bicycle Relief for the past 3 years (

The Purple Tree is such a great concept for a retail store! There is nothing better than hearing people come in the store and say, “I just love this store” or “this is my favorite store in Hudson.” I’m so glad I can be a part of The Purple Tree and could not ask for better employers than the Bruch Family!
