We share our perspective on peace with the Carter Center, namely, that peace with justice requires resolving conflict according to rules agreed to by all, beginning with the shared commitment to human rights and democratic values. Today, virtually all governments claim to share this belief.

We also believe that it is the obligation of each of us to:

• Weigh the implications of a future without co-existence
• Ponder the underlying causes of today's conflicts
• Encourage efforts aimed at addressing these complexities
• Promote similar thoughtful consideration by others.

All of us on this small planet have arrived together at the beginning of this new millennium. It is an age where the knowledge of weapons of mass destruction is but a click away. And we live in a world where terrorism is viewed by some as a legitimate response to the perceived economic and cultural assaults they face.

Everyone... every women, every man, every child... all people of all faiths and all races must find a way to embrace each other's differences, and search for compromise and a way to co-exist. The alternative is an unthinkable future for our children. Our ENVIRONMENTAL merchandise: The guiding principle of a sustainable environment is that the needs of the present can be met without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs. This principle recognizes the rights of future generations:
     - to achieve a sustainable level of development,
     - to be able to utilize natural resources, and
     - to know that no generation should inherit less human and natural wealth than the one
       that preceded it.

We subscribe to the Declaration on the Responsibilities of the Present Generations Towards Future Generations passed by The General Conference of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), meeting in Paris in the autumn of 1997. The Declaration states that:
     - the present generations have the responsibility of ensuring that the needs and interests
            of present and future generations are fully safeguarded,
     - it is of utmost importance that every effort is made to ensure, with due regard to human
            rights and fundamental freedoms, that future as well as present generations enjoy full
            freedom of choice as to their political, economic and social systems and are able to
            preserve their cultural and religious diversity,
     - the present generations have the responsibility to bequeath to future generations an
            Earth which will not one day be irreversibly damaged by human activity,
     - each generation inheriting the Earth temporarily should take care to use natural
            resources reasonably and ensure that life is not prejudiced by harmful modifications
            of the ecosystems and that scientific and technological progress in all fields does not
            harm life on Earth.
